So Much Fun in Downtown and Old Town Scottsdale!
While a quarter million (250,000) people currently live in Scottsdale, the original downtown/Old Town feels very much like a small town. There are many small shops of all types, fun restaurants, artwork and galleries galore, beautiful public areas, and an unbelievable amount of Western Americana. In addition, there is a large upscale shopping mall with more than 240 stores, 7 anchor stores, and numerous restaurants and attractions weaving through the downtown area. The whole area has a fun vibe with all sorts of people strolling around, shopping, admiring public art and fountains, walking their dogs, and eating at outdoor patios. It really is SO MUCH FUN!!!
I took two tours of the area, one yesterday and one today. The tour yesterday was a great introduction for newbies and featured a live-narrated ride in a luxury golf cart. Scottsdale Segway Tours is the name of the company.

I booked the 1.5 Hour Stretch Limo Tour of Old Town Scottsdale. Anna Grace was the tour guide and she did a great job.
While I was on that tour I saw another I knew I had to try. I saw this group of folks riding around on motorized scooters dressed up like crazy animals and characters. It looked so crazy fun I had to do that one too. In short, I took that tour today and it was as much fun as it looked. I wanted to ride something quintessentially southwestern so I selected a cactus to ride on. After selecting our “mounts” we were given some training on the vehicles and then our tour began. It was a hoot riding around on the scooters. Many people stopped, stared, photographed, and waved at us - all with a smile on their faces. Scott and the other tour guide did a great job keeping us all together and safe. They also provided us with excellent and fun commentary.

If you ever go to Scottsdale, either tour would be a great choice! There are also companies offering walking tours, bicycle tours, fat-wheeled electric bike tours, and Segway tours, just to name a few types. It would be best to book a tour shortly after you arrive in Scottsdale so you can find places you’d like to explore during your time here. Here’s some photos from both tours!
