The Dazzling Phoenix Zoolights!
I’m writing this as I sit by the airport gate to fly home. My time in Phoenix and Scottsdale is coming to a close for now, but has been wonderful! Right now I’m so tired I could curl up in a corner and sleep incredibly hard (but I won’t.) It is a good tired though - it means I’ve done something challenging. Let’s just say I always try to make the most of every minute of every trip. I am not a sit-at-the-pool kind of traveler, although I did sit by a pool for about an hour on this trip. Maybe I’ll do more of that when I come back again. And I WILL be back! 😁
Last night I went off on my own and toured the Zoolights at the Phoenix Zoo. It is a special holiday attraction with more than 4 million lights that runs until January 14. It was absolutely gorgeous, particularly the 200 foot lighted tunnel and the lake light show, both of which were new this year. Phoenix Zoolights was a combination of lit animal-shaped lanterns (like I’ve seen at Kansas City and Des Moines zoos), but with many different animals and animal-shaped holiday lights than I’ve seen before. . The trees and other areas were also lit up, giving the whole zoo a beautiful festive look. Hot chocolate, snack foods, and quick meal options were available as well. While it is warm in Phoenix by Iowa standards, it does cool down quickly at night. I did put on a light sweatshirt and also put on my gloves. Almost… 😉 Just sayin’ to always bring a jacket along at night, even in Phoenix. Layers are always appropriate no matter where you travel.
Anyway, it was a lovely evening of admiring all the lights and lantern shapes and watching the delightful light show in the middle of the zoo lake. For more info about the Phoenix Zoolights, click below.
