Las Noches de las Luminarias

When traveling at particular times of the year, it’s always good to see what special attractions and events are available in that area. That’s especially true during the holiday season! There are just certain things you don’t want to miss!

On that note, my mom, sister, daughter, and I went to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. They host a special holiday event each year called Las Noches de las Luminarias” which is simply incredible. Not only are there 700+ hand-lit Luminarias, but there are also thousands of plants, holiday lights, artwork and sculptures, performing musical groups, and special demonstrations available. Food is also available, although restaurant reservations are highly recommended.

I was absolutely enchanted by this event. The desert plants were unique and mysterious lit up at night. The holiday lights were artistically placed. The decorations and the music were fabulous. And, of course, the weather was incredible. While it was a fair bit of walking, there are numerous places to sit and admire the views. The luminarias were gorgeous and helped light the paths and outline the buildings. Plus, much to my mother’s delight, the gift shop was open and full of unique items to remember your trip by. 😉

If you are ever in the Phoenix area at the holidays, I’d highly recommend going to this event and making advance reservations to come at the evening opening time. There was much to see and do that I will just have to reserve for a future trip, which I don’t mind either. 😁 If possible, I would try to go to the Desert Botanical Garden during the day first so you can get a feel for where things are. They do have signs but there are many intersecting paths and it’s easy to get confused in the dark. I’d also recommend bringing or buying some water, as (obviously) the desert climate is quite dry and you want to stay hydrated at all times.

That being said, if you ever get the opportunity to go at any time of year, just do it! You will love it! 🥰
