Sometimes people I meet from other places in the U.S. and elsewhere get Iowa and Idaho confused. They usually say something like, “Potatoes, right?” “Uh, nope! Corn, soybeans, cattle, hogs, dairy, eggs, and more.” Plus vibrant cities, beautiful surroundings, and very friendly people who are “Iowa Nice.”

I may be a bit biased since I grew up in Iowa, but our capital city, Des Moines, is a beautiful city with enough population to bring in major concerts, events, and restaurants, but small enough to feel like a large small town. I always enjoy going to Des Moines. One of the things I enjoy there is trying new (to me) restaurants.

This post is about one restaurant I’ve recently tried - Eggs & Jam in West Des Moines. Note that it is only open for breakfast and lunch. Google says it is currently open 8-2 Wednesday through Friday and 7-3 on Saturday and Sunday. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Eggs & Jam is a trendy restaurant for adults and families. To be honest, I always feel a bit “old” when I visit. I am usually the oldest person in the room. But, no matter, age is simply a state of mind and as long as you can handle 90’s hip-hop music for ambience, you are in for a treat. The food is fabulous and the service is great. In fact, it is so good you may want to make a reservation if you are going at a typically busy day or time. Since it is a breakfast and lunch place, you can have breakfast until they close. They have great biscuits and gravy (called Ludabiscuits), breakfast sandwiches, mixed drinks, and their candied bacon is AMAZING! (As in Uh-MAZ-Ing… Say it with me in a sing-song voice!)

Another feature of the restaurant is the street art covering almost all the walls. It is fun to look at and humorous at times. It really complements the 90s hip-hop theme. 😁

Check out the link and photos below. Please note that if you can’t see more than the drink menu, do a search for Eggs and Jam Des Moines menu and more should appear in your results.

When in Des Moines, make a reservation and give it a try. It will be a memorable experience!

This was a starter. I can’t remember the name, but it was delicious! ⬇️
