The BEST Gelato in Milan!

It is, unfortunately, well-known by those that know me that I am sort of an ice cream junkie. I have a weakness for ice cream in all its various forms and flavors. As I’ve gotten older, I have tried to cut down on my ice cream intake, but when in Milan (or Italy in general), you need to sample the gelato. (When in Rome…) 😀

Gelato tends to be richer and creamier than ice cream. It is churned more slowly and is generally made with milk, where ice cream is made with cream. The good news is gelato may be healthier for you. Yay! Music to my ears!

My Milan art instructor introduced me to the very best gelato in Milan. She is from Milan and declared it the very best. I think I agree with her! While I realize there are many shops selling gelato in Milan, as with most of Italy (even other countries such as Switzerland)), the gelato I had at Floriana was the best I had in all of Europe.

Gelateria Floriana is a locally-owned shop selling gelato and other products such as cakes, coffee, and chocolate. I went there several times after art classes (with the instructor) and every flavor I tried was absolutely incredible! The owner apprenticed in a gelato shop as a young boy and he definitely learned the craft well. He is a nice guy as well. He has obviously done well with his business, as it always seemed busy when I was there.

Here are few badly-taken photos. I should have taken more but the sunlight glare on the cases made it almost impossible.

The website doesn’t seem to work at the link below, but there are better photos to salivate over. 😉

So just trust me and if you ever go to Milan, check out his shop. You won’t regret a single spoonful! 😋
