If you are fascinated by sea creatures, you will enjoy the Seattle Aquarium. I have been to the aquarium several times over the years and the facilities and exhibit improve every time I visit.

I recently spent the afternoon of August 5 at the aquarium. While there I was pleased to see a brand new aquarium building was set to open in late August along the busy and popular Seattle waterfront called the Ocean Pavilion. I just checked the Seattle Aquarium webpage and it is now open! Check out the webpages below! ⬇️

The Ocean Pavilion looks fabulous! I’m sure it is very popular right now so I would purchase tickets online ahead of your visit. The Seattle Aquarium is also part of CityPass, which provides discounts on bundles of Seattle attractions. If you enjoy saving money, you will want to learn more about Seattle CityPass below. ⬇️

The existing aquarium (that I went to and that is still open) houses many exhibits of interest to all ages. There are tidepool and touch tank exhibits, an octopus, numerous adorable otters and sea lions, and a wide variety of fish! I was able to watch trainers working with the sea lions and it was very entertaining. You can also find corals, starfish, and many other types of sea organisms.

Because the aquarium is on the waterfront, the aquarium has used that to their advantage. There are decks and viewing platforms overlooking the waterfront. It makes for a fun overall experience! There are restaurants and attractions nearby, including the Seattle Great Wheel (giant Ferris wheel).

📢Tip: The waterfront area was under construction when I was there in early August, so research parking and transportation options before you head there. Rideshare companies prefer to do pick up and drop off on streets perpendicular to the waterfront, as there are few areas for them to pull over otherwise. I lost an Uber ride due to that but soon got another one. Seattle has many transportation options (including a FREE DAILY waterfront shuttle that I didn’t know about 🤦‍♀️) and it is very walkable if you are in the downtown area. See the link below for more information.

Here are some additional photos from the aquarium! My favorite were the otters, who were being fed a large crab each while we there.
