I am writing this post from one of my favorite independent, cozy bookstores. I am thinking about all I did during my recent, two-week road trip. It was truly amazing and I’ll start sharing it with you today by giving you an overview.

The idea for this road trip came about due to a Facebook post showing the path of totality for the recent eclipse on April 8. When I saw how close it was I became excited about seeing it. So I planned a whole trip around it! I started my road trip by flying to Oklahoma City and renting a car. At the rental car exit, I met a super nice guy who was excited to see what I was going to write about his city, so I’d better get to it! 😉

I stayed in Oklahoma City for five days, spending two nights at The National Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City and then spent 3 nights in an affordable, yet artfully-decorated AirBnb. During the day I explored the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum, the Myriad Botanical Gardens, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the new First Americans Museum, and took a Bricktown river boat cruise. Here’s just a few photos as an introduction. I will feature more info and photos from each place in separate posts.

Next, I high-tailed it down the road on April 7 to Little Rock, Arkansas. Little Rock was forecasted in the path of totality. While in Little Rock I experienced the eclipse and it was awesome. I also went to the Clinton Presidential Library, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, and the ESSE Purse Museum (Yes, you read that right). A few pictures below…

I then set out for Eureka Springs, marveling at how it had changed since I had been there 25+ years ago. While driving on Highway 65 to Eureka Springs, I drove through numerous small towns with murals, lots of historical character, and an amazing amount of vintage and antique shops. Bonus - the scenery was beautiful too! While there only one night, I went on a tram tour of the city and took in a wonderful lunch at the Crescent Hotel and then visited Thorncrown Chapel and St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. Again, a few photos below…

I then went to Bentonville, Arkansas and spent two nights in the area. While there, I explored the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, which was amazing. I also visited the Museum of Native American History. A few pictures to follow…

Lastly, I spent one overnight stay in Liberty, Missouri. I had intended to stay two nights there and do some things in Kansas City, but thunderstorms were moving in overnight so I decided to head home. Besides, I was exhausted and needed to sleep in my own bed. Plus I missed my family. I only have a few photos from my time spent there.

In the next few weeks I will provide more detail and a bunch more photos of all these locations and attractions. Despite having two weeks, it was still a whirlwind tour. There’s so much more to do at each of these places. I met some wonderful people, ate some delicious food, and walked my legs off. I’ll just have to go back someday! 😉
