Le Mars, Iowa Hosts a Larger-Than-Life Christmas - Part Two!

Le Mars, Iowa has become a fun holiday destination! (See my previous post). The Brown family provides fantastic entertainment and the town has many older and beautiful homes. Many town organizations come together and provide holiday activities and events. My two friends and I went to the Plymouth County Historical Museum after the Browns show last Saturday afternoon. They display a large exhibit of nativity scenes every year around this time. The nativities are from many parts of the world and are each unique. The event is both beautiful and fun!

Then we decided to have an early dinner at Bob’s Drive-in, a Le Mars restaurant staple for many years. They have great maid-rites (sloppy joes), Bob dogs (huge hot dogs), and many other delicious items, including shakes and ice cream treats. You can order and eat inside or outside. I highly recommend Bob’s!

The Chamber of Commerce put on a wonderful event at the Plymouth County Fairground. It included dozens of decorated trees (my sister decorated one for her work so we saw that), free snacks like cookies, cider, and popcorn, musical entertainment, a round barn full of two floors of holiday displays, a place to purchase dinner, holiday lights, horse-drawn carriage rides, s’mores-making, a chance to visit Santa himself, and a building where each child can pick out a free plush animal. We enjoyed it and it would be even more fun with kids!

After that we breezed back to the Brown’s gift Shop and we purchased a few items for birthdays and holidays for others and just a bit of their homemade chocolate. Did I mention the sister studied at the Le Cordon Bleu in France??? The chocolates were fabulous and she has several cookbooks available for purchase. Is there nothing this family can’t do? While we were shopping we spoke to the mother, who was working at the register. She beamed when we told her how much we enjoyed the show. Such down-to-earth and hardworking people. It was a pleasure to support their business!

While we did not attend, the town also held a lighted holiday parade on Saturday night. Yes, a winter parade in Iowa. Now that’s dedication! 😉 One more Le Mars holiday blog post coming up. Stay tuned!

My sister’s tree! Isn’t it gorgeous?!?

Isn’t this fun? 😁
