Fabulous Public Art in Council Bluffs Including New Murals!

I had the privilege today of going “Live” on my travel blog Facebook page showcasing a new full-scale mural in Council Bluffs. There are four new recently-completed murals on the First Avenue Trail just one block off of Broadway. The trail used to be a busy railroad track not that long ago. Now it has been converted to a nice, flat paved trail with wonderful murals to enjoy. I’m excited to go walking there when it warms up! They would be great for selfies and photos when it warms up too! 🤳😉

The link to my “Live” video is below. It starts out a little rough, as we were waiting for attendees to join us and then, inexplicably, I couldn’t spit out the name of my blog correctly 🙄 but it picks up from there. I did manage to refer to the world-famous artist Jun Kaneko as “she” who is male. 🤪🥴😕 Ugh, but anyway my apologies to him.

My First "Live" Video from Today

Did you know that in 2004 the Iowa West Foundation established a committee of people to facilitate and promote public art in Council Bluffs? I had no idea - and I love art! They identified 50 places in Council Bluffs to place public art. Wow! The first installation was the new Bayliss Park fountain and pavilion. Read more about it below!

Did you also know that there’s a free app you can download called the Otocast Public Art app that allows you to listen to the artists talking about 12 installations of their work? Plus other nearby communities’ installations? Now you do! For more info click below.

And, last, here is a blog post discussing the four new murals on the First Avenue trail. Check it out!

And since I didn’t COMPLETELY embarrass myself today, maybe I’ll introduce you to another new mural next weekend. Stay tuned! 😉
