What To Do This Weekend! Slightly Spooky INDOOR Edition

Happy (almost) Friday! If you are like me you enjoy the fun parts of Halloween, but not if things are too spooky. So, here are some of my recommendations for slightly spooky INDOOR ideas to take in this weekend around the Midwest, as the weather looks like it may be not be ideal for many outdoor pursuits. 🤷‍♀️

Lauritzen Gardens Wicked Plants Exhibit

While I always enjoy all the displays at these Omaha gardens, I have been quite taken with the Wicked Plants display in the great hall this month. The exhibit is showing until November 2, 2023 and is included in the gardens’ admission. While it is not a big exhibit, it is certainly fun and informative. Glance at a few photos below, but I’m holding some back for now in case you do decide to go in person.

Hot Shops Day of the Dead Exhibit

Recently, I have started taking a few creative classes at the Hot Shops, an artist gallery at near downtown Omaha and have loved it! When I was there last Saturday there was a Day of the Dead exhibit on the first floor featuring 28 resident Hot Shop artists. It is eclectic, colorful, and enlightening to see how different artists bring the theme to life.

The exhibit continues through October 31, so check out this free exhibit before the end of the month. Artwork featured in the exhibit is for sale with featuring a wide range of prices. While you are there browse all four floors of individual artists’ shops and perhaps get an early start on those holiday gifts! (Wink, wink/nudge nudge 😉

Trick or Trees at Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden - October 28

This family event features activities, entertainment, and trick-or-treating at the garden. Costumes are encouraged so plan ahead. Tickets may be purchased online on the Gardens’ website and I would purchase them immediately. It looks like a great line-up of activities and fun! This event costs $12 for adults and $9 for kids ages 2 - 12 and runs from 10 - 5 on Saturday, October 28.
