The Beauty and Fun of Arts Festivals!

I just returned this afternoon from the 50th and FINAL Omaha Summer Arts Festival. While I have to say that I’m sorry to see it end, I’m glad the weather for it was fairly nice and it looked like a large crowd was shopping and buying. It seemed to end very much with a flair, which makes me happy. Sprinkled throughout this post you will find photos from the 2024 Omaha Summer Arts Festivals. (Please note that I was given permission directly by the artists to photograph and attribute their work and include it in my blog.)

I have enjoyed going to arts festivals for many years. I enjoy the art tents sitting side by side, with many types of artworks in the same small space. I enjoy the art festival atmosphere. It just feels like a big party! The food. music, and other activities are a nice benefit too. In fact, the very first art I ever purchased was from the Omaha Summer Arts Festival the year I moved to the area. I purchased two small southwestern design oil paintings signed by the artist for my apartment. I believe the artist was from Colorado.

Arts festivals allow you to meet the actual artists, which is a more personal process than walking through a museum or gallery. You can ask questions and show appreciation for their work at the same time. The artwork I saw today was so creative and beautiful. The artists were very friendly as well. There were artworks to purchase in all price ranges, which was nice to see. Artists should get a fair price for their hard work and art is for everyone to enjoy, so I was glad to see the range of options available.

While I will definitely miss going to the Omaha Summer Arts Festival, there are other wonderful summer arts festivals all over the Midwest and around the U.S. (Note: Always double check dates, times, and locations as things can and do change!) Here are a few compilations of the larger ones:

Lou and I had a great discussion about travel! He just came back from Scandinavia and encouraged me to travel in Asia - Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam. He was great to visit with. I could have visited longer but his was my last tent and my legs needed a break. 😵‍💫 Happy travels, Lou! Hope you make it to Southern Europe soon! 🤞
