A Plethora of Holiday Purchases at Palmer’s Olde Tyme Candy Shoppe in Sioux City, Iowa

It’s no secret that I enjoy historical and boutique shops, so on a recent trip up I-29 I made a beeline for Palmer’s Olde Tyme Candy Shoppe (Palmer’s Old Time Candy Shop). While I have been here before and the shop is always a treat, it’s especially fun near the holidays. It’s also a great place to buy gifts, particularly if you love Twin Bings, like I do! 🤫🤫😉

The shop functions both as a small historical museum for the Palmer Candy Company and a large gift shop handling many types of candy, treats, and kitchen items. Before I selected gifts, I looked around at the old-time candy machines. It was fun to guess what the machine’s function was before you read the nearby signs. See below for a few photos. ⬇️

The room the furthest from the entrance is next. This room contains culinary items and products. In this room, you can find anything from sauces to soup mixes to flavored teas to cooking utensils. There are also cookbooks, cutting boards, and a Palmer’s Candy Shop exclusive - Twin Bing-flavored coffee, both in caffeinated and decaffeinated varieties. You can purchased bags with the whole beans or ground coffee beans. This is new this year! I bought some for my husband and can’t wait to try it. 👏

The main room contains three different display areas of candy. There are several shelves of packaged candy made both by Palmer’s and other companies. In the center of the large room are bulk candies of many types, which you can tell them how much of each kind you want and they will scoop and bag it for you. The last area contains a large candy counter with all types of delectable goodies sold by the piece.

In some display areas there are other items such as t-shirts, popcorn from a Sioux City business, and some gift boxes. The bottom line is that this is a wonderful place to purchase holiday gifts, stocking stuffers, and items to prepare a holiday meal.

The store is located in downtown Sioux City just off exit 148 on I-29. Other attractions are nearby, such as Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the Sioux City Art Center, LaunchPAD Children’s Museum, and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. There is much to do and you and your family could make a fun day of it!
